Sexual Medicine (STI’s)

Many sexually transmitted infections do not give rise to symptoms. For example, approximately 70% of women with chlamydia have no syptoms. The main risks of chlamydia include pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), painful sexual intercourse, and infertility. Symptoms for other sexually transmitted infections vary depending on the type of infection.

Common symptoms related to STI’s in general are genital itching or discomfort, pain, discharge (potentially coloured or smelly), localised or generalised rashes, sexual dysfunction and skin lumps and ulcers.

Sexual medicine also deals with genital conditions including vaginal or urethral discharge, genital lumps, rashes, itchiness, ulcers and unexplained genital or pelvic pain.

You may experience issues during or surrounding sexual intercourse. In males, this includes impotence, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, etc, and for women this can include painful intercourse, genital pain and loss of libido or sexual desire.
