What Is the Endosure® Test?
The Endosure® test is a non-invasive diagnostic assessment used to support the investigation of endometriosis and adenomyosis.
Unlike surgical diagnosis methods, the test is performed externally using small sensors placed on the abdomen. The technology measures electrical signals from the gastrointestinal system to help identify patterns associated with endometriosis.
Key features of the test include:
• Non-invasive procedure
• No needles, internal examination, or anaesthesia
• Similar in concept to an ECG
• Performed during a simple outpatient appointment
• Results reviewed by a specialist consultant
This assessment can help guide further investigations, treatment planning, or specialist referral.
What Happens During the Test?
The Endosure test appointment is straightforward and designed to be comfortable for patients.
During the procedure:
• Three small electrodes are placed on the abdomen
• You remain relaxed in a comfortable position
• The test records electrical signals from the digestive system
• The assessment usually takes around 30–45 minutes
• You can return to normal activities immediately afterwards
The procedure is completely painless and requires no recovery time.

Who May Benefit from Endosure Testing?
Endosure testing may be suitable for women experiencing symptoms commonly associated with endometriosis or adenomyosis, including:
• Chronic pelvic pain
• Painful or heavy periods
• Pain during intercourse
• Unexplained infertility
• Persistent abdominal or pelvic discomfort
The test is particularly helpful for patients whose symptoms suggest endometriosis but imaging results are inconclusive.
Our consultants combine the test results with your medical history, symptoms, and imaging studies to build a clearer diagnostic picture.
How Your Results Are Used
After your Endosure test, your results will be reviewed by one of our experienced gynaecology specialists.
Your consultant will assess:
• Your symptoms and clinical history
• Results from the Endosure test
• Ultrasound or MRI imaging (if available)
• Physical examination findings
This comprehensive review helps guide the next steps in diagnosis and treatment, which may include:
• Further imaging
• medical management
• referral for specialist endometriosis surgery
• fertility assessment if required.
