Patient Information & Resources

Welcome to the Midlands Women’s Health Patient Information Hub.

Before Your Appointment

We believe that informed patients make confident decisions about their healthcare.

This page provides trusted information to help you prepare for your appointment, understand common gynaecological conditions and procedures, and access additional support from recognised organisations.

Helpful information

What to expect at your appointment

Your consultant will discuss your symptoms, medical history and any concerns you may have. If an examination or investigation is recommended, this will be fully explained beforehand and only carried out with your consent.

Preparing for your consultation

Please bring:

  • A list of your current medications.
  • Any relevant clinic letters or test results (if requested).
  • A list of any questions you would like to ask.

Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment.

Chaperones and intimate examinations

A trained female chaperone is available for all intimate examinations. Your consultant will explain the examination beforehand and will only proceed with your consent.

Bringing a partner, family member or friend

You are welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend to your appointment for support. We will do our best to accommodate anyone accompanying you; however, due to clinical, privacy or safety requirements, this may not always be possible during examinations or surgical procedures. Your consultant or a member of our team will advise you if this applies to your appointment.

Results and follow-up appointments

Your consultant will explain when your results will be available and whether a follow-up appointment is recommended. With your consent, a copy of your clinic letter can also be sent to your GP if requested.

Contact Us

Procedures

Will the procedure be painful?

Most procedures are well tolerated. Your consultant will explain what to expect, the options available for pain relief, and answer any questions before treatment.

Can I drive afterwards?

This depends on the procedure you have had. Your consultant will advise you whether it is safe to drive or whether you should arrange for someone to accompany you home.

Will I need time off work?

Many patients can return to normal activities within a day or two, although some procedures require a longer recovery. Your consultant will provide personalised advice.
